MIUI 10 Global Stable Update Now Rolling Out To a Number of Xiaomi Devices

Just a couple weeks after Xiaomi had  started rolling out  the stable build of its next major software update –  MIUI 10  in China, the company has now decided to make the MIUI 10 stable builds available globally, including India. So, if you have any of the devices mentioned below, you should be getting the MIUI 10 update anytime now. The MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM has now become  available for a handful of devices , including  the Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro,  Mi 6, Mi Mix, Mi Mix 2, Mi 5, Mi Note 2, and the Redmi Y2 , which was the first Xiaomi device to witness the rollout of the MIUI 10 stable update earlier this week. Talking about the specifics,  MIUI 10 for all the devices is based on Android 8.0 Oreo, except for the  Redmi Note 5 Pro, which is getting Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10 with this stable update . Xiaomi Mocks Apple With New XS, XS Max and XR Product Bundles

Xiaomi is called the  ‘Apple of China’ for reasons ranging from the company’s quick rise to stardom to ripping off the design of Apple products. Even though Xiaomi cites Apple as a major inspiration, the  exorbitant pricing  of the new iPhone models appears to have ticked off Xiaomi, and the Chinese company is now mocking Apple with new product bundles in China that cost less than the new iPhone models. What’s even more interesting is that the Xiaomi’s three product bundles, which include a laptop, a smartphone, a fitness band and an audio device, are  all priced equivalent to or less than the respective iPhone models they are named after . Yeah, that’s the difference in return you get for your hard-earned money if you knock at Xiaomi’s door rather than entering an Apple Store. Don’t believe me? Just take a look at Xiaomi’s product bundles and decide for yourself.   First up is the  XR bundle  which includes the 12.5-inch  Mi Notebook Air  laptop, the  Mi 8 SE smartphone , the  Mi

Here’s How to Unlock Bootloader on Poco F1

Xioami’s Poco F1 has so far received great reviews from most users, and despite some persistent bugs, the phone remains amazing value for money. The  Poco F1 is selling in significant numbers , according to the company, and one factor that might have drawn Android enthusiasts to the phone is the support for bootloader unlock. At the launch event, Poco’s Product Manager Jai Mani shared the  company’s vision of making the Poco F1 a developer-friendly device . In line with this, the company  released Poco F1’s kernel source . Another issue solved by Poco was the reduction in the waiting time before users can unlock the F1 bootloader. Xiaomi does not allow users to unlock bootloaders on their own and they must apply for the unlocking, and this  process takes 30-60 days for Xiaomi devices .  Poco brought this down  to a commendable  minimum waiting period of three days , and while it is still painful to wait for this duration, the change is a vital stepping stone towards a more posi

Realme Confirms Realme 2 Pro Launch on September 26-27

Realme recently  launched  its second smartphone, the Realme 2, in India at Rs. 8,990. At the Realme 2’s launch event, the company teased that a new smartphone rumored to be the  Realme 2 Pro  was in the pipeline. Putting an end to all the speculations, the company has sent out media invites for a two-day event scheduled for September 26 and 27, where the company is expected to launch the Realme 2 Pro. The press invite clearly highlights four letters which collectively form the word ‘2 Pro’, clearing all doubts that the company is gearing up to launch the Realme 2 Pro later this month. The Pro moniker indicates that the upcoming smartphone will bring upgraded hardware over the Realme 2 and will reportedly flaunt a new design. So far, we are yet to come across a credible report about the Realme 2 Pro’s specs, but we expect the company to go with a more capable processor than the mediocre Snapdragon 450 SoC inside the Realme 2. The device lagged behind the Realme 1 on the benchma

Google Pixel 3 Official Launch Event Set For October 9

The event will kick off at 11:00 AM (ET) and will also be live-streamed via Google’s official channels for those who don’t want to miss any announcement made at the event. The press invite doesn’t reveal anything else, but the ‘I <3 NY’ phrase and the numeral ‘3’ which forms the heart emoticon is a  not so subtle hint that the event will be headlined by the Pixel 3 phones.   Google’s upcoming smartphone duo has been leaked more times than you can count on your fingers. According to all the  leaks and renders , we now know for sure that the Pixel 3 XL will feature a huge notch up front. As for the smaller Pixel 3, it won’t sport a notch and will have a design similar to last year’s Pixel 2 XL, however, both the devices will come equipped with dual front-facing cameras. Back in June, high quality  renders  of the Pixel 3 an

Google Enables Battery Saver Android Pie Devices Remotely, Calls It An Accident

Did you see the battery saver on your Android Pie device activate automatically last night? Well, you are not alone as several devices running the latest iteration of Android noticed this power-saving kick in out of the blue. Reddit is flooded with reports that several Google Pixel devices, along with the Essential Phone,  Nokia 7 plus  and the  OnePlus 6  – all running some form of Android Pie (stable or beta builds) were affected by this weird bug. Battery saver helps keep your device running for a little longer by limiting unnecessary background apps, lowering the brightness, and not using mobile data. A lot of users called it a standard practice, with OEMs A/B testing features prior to official rollout. But it surely has creeped out many other people. Well, as per an  official statement posted by Google on Reddit, it was an accident which  stemmed from an internal experiment  and extended beyond the scope of devices that should’ve been included in it. You can find the c

Smart HDR on iPhone XS, XS Max and XR: Is This Apple’s Version of Google HDR+?

Apple launched three new iPhones this year and all three are powered by the company’s latest  A12 Bionic chipset. Built on a 7nm process, the A12 Bionic chipset features a next-gen neural engine that unlocks quite a few new features in the camera app. Apple spoke at length about the all new Smart HDR feature that the company claims is capable of delivering  “photos with high dynamic range and great image detail, advanced bokeh quality in Portrait mode photos and dynamic depth of field that is user adjustable in the Photos app.” Now that might not immediately make it clear, so if you’re still wondering what exactly this Smart HDR is, then you are in the right place. A Little Help From Neural Networks Simply put, Smart HDR will allow users to click better pictures that have little to no loss of detail due to overexposure or shadows – you won’t get pictures which look black in the darker areas or a blinding white in the well-let areas. In order to make that happen, the new

Poco F1 128GB Goes on Open Sale Starting Midnight

The Poco F1 has gained a significant amount of popularity worldwide, thanks to its powerful specifications, a  camera that clearly feels out-of-budget , a  sturdy build , and features such as the  liquid cooling tech . These great features, despite  certain flaws , have resulted in a substantial revenue with Poco’s parent Xiaomi raking  Rs 200 crore in the very first sale  itself. In spite of the Poco F1’s popularity, many wanting to own the device have faced difficulty in scoring one due to the rush at the flash sales. But as Poco’s global Product Head, Jai Mani, promised at the launch event, the issue is close to being resolved. The  #MasterOfSpeed  is now within even more reach.  #POCOF1  6GB RAM + 128GB UFS 2.1 internal storage goes on open sale starting midnight tonight! Firmware Flaw Affecting All Modern Laptops Allows Encryption Key Theft

The  Meltdown  and  Spectre vulnerabilities rocked the entire PC industry, and despite several patches to mitigate the risks, new  variants  of the flaws continue to surface. And it seems there is no respite for security professionals. Finnish cybersecurity company, F-Secure, has discovered a new firmware flaw which affects all modern laptops and can be exploited to steal encryption keys and sensitive data. The vulnerability allows a malicious party to perform a cold boot attack on a device which they can physically access, and all it takes is just 5 minutes to get past the security layers of a Windows or macOS-powered laptop and steal sensitive information. “It takes some extra steps compared to the classic cold boot attack, but it’s effective against all the modern laptops we’ve tested” , said F-Secure Principal Security Consultant, Olle Segerdahl. Modern laptops come with a safety mechanism to thwart cold boot attacks, but F-Secure’s team discovered a flaw in that mechanis
